JCCBI to perform evening drilling-testing work for the Mercier Bridge
08/23/2022
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) has been informed by the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) that evening drilling/testing work for the Mercier Bridge will take place starting tomorrow (August 24, 2022) through Friday (August 26, 2022).
The evening drilling/testing work will take place from 2pm until 9pm, and will not have a major impact to local traffic as the majority of the work will be done next to the bridge’s support piers. However, some partial and temporary lane closures may be required due to reasons of safety.
Other such works are also being carried out during daytime hours.
The aforementioned drilling/testing work by JCCBI has been approved by the MCK, and will take place in various locations around the bridge structure.
These tests are part of a geotechnical investigation, which includes a seismic performance evaluation, and a preliminary study of earthquake-resistant rehabilitation works for the Mercier Bridge.
The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints, or work progression and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
