Local charged in connection with Saturday pursuit

08/29/2022

On the evening of August 27, 2022, at 22:20. Peacekeepers received a call reporting a local male passed out behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado on Hwy 132 at the intersection of Mohawk Trail/Blackberries.

While officers were en route to the location provided, the reporting person called back to advise that they woke the driver up to put the vehicle in park, but the individual drove away. Officers located the vehicle at the next traffic light and moved to intercept. The driver of the vehicle fled up the Mercier Bridge, colliding with a jersey barrier and a motorcyclist, who was not injured but received damages to his vehicle.

The pursuit continued from the bridge into the village area before officers called the pursuit off in the interest of public safety. Officers, as well as witnesses on the scene, were able to visually identify the driver before the pursuit was called off.

The next day, August 28, at 09:35, the suspect turned himself in at the Peacekeeper station. He was held in custody until he could appear before a judge. Chase Brascoup (DOB: March 16, 2001) has been formally charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, and theft of a motor vehicle. His next appearance is November 24 in Longueuil Court.
