Community Engagement period begins on draft Regulations for Administrative Tribunal
10/04/2022
The Justice Services Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that a two (2) week community consultation period begins today with regard to regulations being developed for the Administrative Tribunal. The first phase of the consultation is the invitation for Kahnawa’kehró:non to participate in a Survey (click here).
An Information Sheet is included to assist those participating in the survey.
The Administrative Tribunal is an important component of the Kahnawà:ke justice system and is intended to resolve various legal disputes in a manner that is more flexible, efficient and cost effective than traditional court systems.
Draft regulations have been in development for several months.
“Creating an Administrative Tribunal that is workable, independent and, most important, is trusted by the community has been a priority,” said Commissioner of Justice Kevin Fleischer. “Kiosks will be held at the Tewatohnhi’saktha Lobby (next to the Post Office) on Friday, October 7th (8:30am – 4 pm) and at the Caisse Populaire Kahnawà:ke lobby on Thursday, October 13th (12 noon – 7pm) where interested persons can ask questions, make comments, and fill out surveys. The intent is to make sure that we are headed in a direction that reflects the community’s expectations.”
Hard copies of the Information Sheet and Survey will be available at the kiosks.
