KLCC receives request to amend Kahnawake Gaming Law
10/06/2022
The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to advise the community that it has received a second submission requesting amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Gaming Law.
The request, received on September 29, 2022, was submitted by the Kahnawą:ke Gaming Commission. A previous request by community member Myles McComber for amendments to the same law was received on July 26, 2021.
Both requests to amend the KGL will go through the CDMP following the Multiple Request procedure whereby:
- According to the process, community members have until Friday, October 14, 2022, to submit a request to amend the Kahnawą:ke Gaming Law. No further submissions will be accepted after that date
- A meeting will be held to determine the Proponent selection between the people that submitted the request. Should no-one choose to become the Proponent, the Technician would assume the role of the Proponent
- The KLCC has placed this legislative submission on a waiting list since the 2021-2024 Legislative Agenda currently exceeds its maximum of five laws going through the Community Decision Making Process
- The KLCC will only accept further requests on this matter one (1) year after the enactment of the legislation or amendments
- The KLCC will keep the community informed of any further developments
