Mandate given to create MCK Revenue and Business Development Unit

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the Council of Chiefs passed an Executive Directive at Monday�s duly-convened Council meeting to formally support the creation of a new Unit that will be responsible for revenue generation and business development on behalf of the MCK.

The MCK�s Executive Revenue Officer, Alexandre Kanawai�n:ton Beaupre, has been given the official mandate to oversee and administer the new Revenue and Business Development Unit (�the Unit�). In 2019, Tewatohnhi�saktha and the MCK mutually agreed that the revenue generation and business development mandates would be the responsibility of the MCK going forward. The new Unit will now be responsible for these mandates.

The Unit will oversee community-owned economic projects, as well as the Business & Economic Development Fund. In conjunction with the creation of this Unit, an Investment & Revenue Committee is being created, along with Terms of reference and By-Laws. This, along with an Investment Policy, will ensure prudent decisions will be made to allow Kahnaw�:ke to become economically independent.

�The creation of the Revenue & Business Development Unit, as well as the accompanying policies and structure, will enable the community to grow economically,� said Michael Delisle, Jr., the MCK lead on the Economic Development Portfolio. �We will develop projects that are sound investments, economically sustainable, and, of course, reap financial rewards for Kahnaw�:ke. Our goal is to put our community in the best position financially for future generations.� 

The new Unit will work closely with the MCK�s Economic Development Portfolio Team. The community will be informed once the new Unit becomes operational.
