Peacekeepers warn of texting scam from CRA
11/17/2022
Forwarded on behalf of the Kahnawake Peacekeepers The Kahnawake Peacekeepers have been receiving reports of a possible scam from several community members.
According to the complainants, some residents have received a text message from what appears to be the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) offering an anti-inflation benefit. The text message (see sample below) has the recipients name as well as their correct date of birth and social insurance number. There is also a link to a website in the message. It is not certain how the suspects obtained their targets personal information.
Community members are being reminded not to click on any unsolicited links, whether in the form of a text message or an email. If any other community members receive similar messages, please contact Cst. Michael Stacey at Michael.Stacey@kmpk.ca or by phone at 450-632-6505, to begin taking steps to secure your identity.
