2023 World University Games Torch Relay in village area TOMORROW (Thursday)

12/07/2022

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) Sports and Recreation Unit (SRU) is pleased to announce that the Torch Relay for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games passes through the community Thursday, December 8th (tomorrow) between 2pm and 4pm.

Local college and university athletes (past and present) will carry the torch from the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex (“the Complex”) to the Kahnawà:ke Youth Center (KYC).

The day’s events will begin with a free hockey clinic hosted by the Concordia University Women’s Hockey team that will take place at the Complex at 12 noon, followed by the opening ceremony for the torch relay at 1:15pm. The closing ceremony takes place at the KYC once the torch bearers arrive, with local food and craft vendors on-site.

Kahnawa’kehró:non are invited for all of the events and are strongly encouraged to cheer on our local athletes as they run through the village area.

“We are extremely pleased that we were considered as one of many communities to have the torch relay,” said Ratsénhaienhs Harry Rice. “Showcasing our athletes to the world is an honor.”

Athletes interested in the free hockey clinic are asked to register with the Kahnawà:ke Minor Hockey Association (via Facebook) or by contacting Director of SRU at (450) 638-3311.
