Kahnawake - Hydro-Québec - Champlain Hudson Power Express Frequently Asked Questions available to community

12/15/2022

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise Kahnawa’kehró:non that a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) has been made available to help provide accurate information on the Hertel Line project, which is the conduit that will connect to the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project. The MCK is a joint owner with Hydro-Québec of the section from the Hertel Line - originating in La Prairie and connecting with the CHPE at Rouses Point, New York.

This is the first time that Hydro-Québec is partnering with another entity for any of its infrastructure. The project will provide ‘green energy’ to New York City and will replace approximately 85% of the electricity currently provided by non-renewable sources.

The Frequently Asked Questions have been designed to properly explain the project, its goals, and – most important – Kahnawà:ke’s role. The FAQ document should assist in giving community members a snapshot of the project in an easy-to-read format. It is in no way intended to be a complete and detailed overview. The FAQs can be viewed here.

Further, a webpage has been created for easy access to all the engagement that has occurred in regard to the project until this point and into the future at www.kahnawake.com/hertel-line.
