Compost bin distribution next four weeks

01/05/2023

The Waste Management Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke is requesting community support and participation in the Organics Collection and Community Composting facility.

Compost bins will be distributed to each household over the next four (4) weeks, except for those who previously registered for the Community Composting project and received a bin at that time. Each household in the community will receive a 45L green compost bin, a kitchen catcher, as well as an information sheet and instructions to assist your participation.

Every community member is asked to participate in this important community service, which supports Kahnaw:kes efforts to reduce waste and greenhouse gas production. Methane produced from rotting food in a landfill becomes a potent greenhouse gas, which leads to heat being trapped in the atmosphere and the eventual warming of the earth. Composting is one of many efforts we can take towards minimizing our carbon footprint. Participants will have the added benefit of access to finished compost to support healthy soils (as production allows).

For additional information, please contact the Waste Management Department at (450) 632-4321.
