Ensure your home is ready for extreme cold

The Public Works Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to advise homeowners to be prepared for the upcoming Extreme Cold conditions today through Saturday.

For mobile and older homes with a crawl space:

• Ensure cracks and crevices in the foundation are properly sealed, and any cellar/crawl space windows are closed
• Ensure foam sleeves and properly functioning heat tape are installed around water lines
• Ensure that the skirt under the mobile home is properly closed

Make sure all exterior water taps are shut off, and the outside valve is left open to prevent damage from freezing. If your home has previously experienced problems with frozen pipes, it is recommended that you leave a cold water tap trickling when the temperature drops to extreme lows.
