02/21/2023

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center and Know History are proud to invite the community to the video launch of Resistance & Resilience: Stories and Remembrances of Our Elders.

The video, which is approximately 45 minutes in length, uses interviews conducted with elders over the past year as part of the Kahnawà:ke Oral History Project, which is a collaboration between the partners listed above. The event will begin with acknowledgements from the partners, including Ohén:ton Í:iente ni Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. A number of the elders who participated will also be present.

“Since time immemorial, we have passed our knowledge from generation to generation through storytelling,” said Gerald Taiaiake Alfred, one of the Oral History Project organizers. “Ours has always been an oral tradition, and we believe this project is a true reflection of that tradition. It is a significant addition to our storehouse of knowledge.”

  • Location: Kahnawà:ke Legion Branch 219, DOWNSTAIRS
