Council of Chiefs to meet with federal Public Safety Minister Mendicino

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that the Council of Chiefs are meeting with Canada’s Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino this afternoon to discuss matters related to the federal government’s Bill C-21 legislation to amend the Firearms Act.

The meeting was requested to bring forward Kahnawà:ke’s concerns regarding the potential to restrict or ban certain guns that have long been used for hunting purposes by Kahnawa’kehronon (and other Indigenous) hunters.

The meeting is being held in Kahnawà:ke.
