We got this, Kahnawake – Call to Action for Earth Month
03/15/2023
The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) and Kahnawake Waste Management (KWM) are excited to announce that, in addition to the recognition of Mother Earth Day, which falls on April 22 every year, activities are being planned for the entire Earth Month (April). KEPO and KWM will be hosting free workshops and events focused on waste reduction and environmental protection throughout the month, and are calling on all community organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals to take action.
Sustainable development activities and biodiversity tips and initiatives will be shared throughout the month to encourage participation, while providing awareness and education to individuals. Participants are encouraged to share their activities via email at environmentprotection@mck.ca or through KEPO’s social media, to be entered in a random prize draw to win one of three eco-friendly prize packs valued at $150 each!
Select activities may also be highlighted as a “climate champion” on the KEPO and KWM social media accounts. Follow KEPO and KWM on social media to find more details on the upcoming events and recommendations to get started. Social media links:
Earth Month is an opportunity for community members to consider what actions they can take to improve their environmental impact. Given that Earth Month and Cultural Awareness Month are both observed throughout the month of April, it is the perfect opportunity to recognize the important role of cultural revitalization in shaping sustainability, climate, and biodiversity action. We are encouraging all initiatives and events during Earth Month to draw linkages with Cultural Awareness Month. There is still time to create a more sustainable future, but this can only be achieved through collective and collaborative efforts. We hope you will take action for Earth Month and beyond.
