Ken Bourque retires after 20-year MCK career

03/16/2023

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to congratulate Ken Bourque on his retirement after a 20-year career at the MCK.

After starting in the Finance & Administration department, he was assigned to various departments within the organization. Notably, he was the director of the Quality Assurance department (which was later merged into the new Strategic Organizational Development Unit). His final role was as Business Comptroller (Special Projects).

While working mostly out of the spotlight, Kens contributions in the development and improvement of the MCKs internal quality management processes have been outstanding. He was also part of the Landfill Authority and conducted many operational assessments, major audits, and complaint investigations. Earlier, he conducted a major operational assessment for the Kahnaw:ke Mohawk Peacekeepers, where, among other actions, he developed the training requirements for the department.

He has always been generous with passing on his knowledge gained through his many years of experience to his colleagues and will be missed by his many friends throughout the MCK.

Previous to his employment at the MCK, Ken worked at Air Canada. Because of his connections to the airline, he began coordinating Air Canadas Dreams Take Flight program on behalf of the MCK in 2005 and continued in that role until his retirement. This annual flight to Disneyworld gives less-fortunate children an opportunity to visit the park. In great part due to Kens efforts, dozens of Kahnaw:ke children have taken the trip of a lifetime over the years. Though he will be retiring, he has agreed to coordinate this important initiative for an indeterminate period.

Kens final day in the office is tomorrow (March 17, 2023). The MCK wishes him all the best in his retirement.
