Montreal Canadiens donate to the Multi-Purpose Building Project

03/30/2023

Forwarded on behalf of the Multi-Purpose Building Project Team

The Multi-Purpose Building Project Committee wishes to sincerely thank le Club de hockey Canadien (the Montreal Canadiens) for their donation to the Project.

The donation of $30,000 was part of the Canadiens Indigenous Celebration Night at the Bell Centre at last Saturdays game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"We are very honored to have been invited to the Montreal Canadiens Indigenous Celebration night, said Ietsnhaienhs Jessica Lazare, who is a member of the Building Committee for the Multi-Purpose Building Project. We were even more ecstatic about receiving a donation from the Canadiens organization towards our new Cultural Arts Center, presented by Carey Price. It demonstrates that their organization is paying attention to a neighboring community′s needs, and is willing to use their platform to create awareness about Indigenous communities.

Fundraising has been under way in preparation to break ground for the building that will house the Kanienkeh:ka Onkwawn:na Raotitihkwa Language & Cultural Center, the Turtle Island Theatre, and Kahnaw:ke Tourism, as well as serving as a community hub. Canada, Quebec and private organizations/businesses have already made commitments to financially assist this project, which is being described as being Kahnaw:kes most important project in the past fifty years.
