Flooded areas in Tioweroton

05/02/2023

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke is advising the community of flooding conditions in Tiower:ton, making certain areas inaccessible. The flooding has receded, but there is still a rainfall warning in effect until Wednesday evening where 15 to 30 millimeters of rain is expected. It is highly advised to not try to access the Territory at this time.

There are currently three (3) areas that are inaccessible by vehicle: the Oka Cabin area, the Big Sandpit, and the Nikanaw:sa Bridge. Caretakers are on location and checking the conditions of cabins and roads in flooded areas. Owners of affected flooding will be contacted.

The caretakers will continue assessing the flooding levels until the areas are deemed safe for access, at which time an announcement will be made. In the meantime, community members are asked not to call the Caretakers to inquire about updates on their cabins.

Stay tuned to the Tiower:ton Facebook page for updates.
