Notice of Demolition of the Old Cultural Center Building

The Capital Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the former Kanien�keh�:ka Onkwaw�n:na Raotiti�hkwa Language and Cultural Center (KORLCC) located just off the Old Malone Highway on Cemetary Road is scheduled for demolition from May 17 to June 9, 2023.

During investigative studies, trace amounts of asbestos were detected in the plaster and paint within the building. This area of the building will undergo special abatement procedures from a licensed asbestos abetment contractor to eliminate any risk of contamination to the surrounding areas, air, and groundwater tables.

The demolition of this building will also include a surplus of traffic and noise from heavy machinery in the proximity of the former KORLCC. Special attention to noise, traffic, and dust mitigations will be taken during this time.
