KEPO Fish Monitoring in Tioweroton June 19 and 20
06/16/2023
Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) staff will be monitoring tiotià:kton (brook trout) in Tioweró:ton on Monday, June 19, and Tuesday, June 20.
Underwater video footage will be taken to locate and count young trout (less than one-year-old) to assess habitat use and to verify that trout reproduction continues to occur in the lakes.
KEPO staff will also check temperature/depth dataloggers in Gagnon, Little Gagnon, and Red Trout Lakes. These data loggers are tracking longer-term trends that may be affecting available trout habitats in Tioweró:ton.
Finally, KEPO staff will be adding floats to data logging stations to mark their locations. KEPO asks the community not to disturb these stations and to report suspected damage or concerns. KEPO thanks everyone for their cooperation and support.
For any questions, comments, or concerns, please call KEPO at 450-635-0600 or email environmentprotection@mck.ca.
