Congratulations to Team Kahnawake

07/27/2023

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to congratulate the athletes, coaches, mission staff, and supporters of Team Kahnawà:ke (who were part of Team Eastern Door and the North) for their stellar performance at the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“Our athletes did an outstanding job and made our entire community proud!” said Ratsénhaienhs Harry Rice, who holds the Social Supports and Development Portfolio. “I’d also like to thank Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services for their generous donation, which allowed our athletes, coaches, and support staff to concentrate solely on training and competition.”

One hundred fifty-four local athletes and coaches took part in this year’s Games, bringing home a total of 63 medals (17 Gold, 24 Silver, 22 Bronze) for Team Eastern Door and the North.

“I’d like to extend my gratitude to those who attended the community parade and showed our athletes and coaches much-deserved support for a job well done. I’m sure it is something that the athletes will remember for a long time,” said Roiahtate Horn, Director of the Sports and Recreation Unit.

The next North American Indigenous Games will be in Calgary in 2027.
