MCK Strategic Plan 2023 to 2029

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to share the organization′s path forward for the next several years, titled FY2023-FY2029 MCK Strategic Plan. The plan was based on an internal organizational health check, as well as input from numerous engagement sessions with MCK employees, community organizations, and Kahnawa′kehró:non.

Informed by the 2009-2029 Shared Community Vision, the MCK Strategic Plan moves the MCK closer to the overall vision that was developed by the community. The plan will serve as a high-level guidebook that will allow the entire organization to effectively plan operations that serve the community.

"A primary area of focus throughout this plan is greater accountability, clearer protocols and procedures, improved controls, and more engagement and reporting with stakeholders," said Executive Director Onerahtókha Marquis. "It′s about becoming more responsible in how we make decisions."

"Leading and guiding an organization that is both administrative and political has its challenges, to say the least. At times, political issues affect how operations are managed, and vice-versa. Better alignment of the political and administrative bodies is an essential step toward limiting these issues," said Ohén:ton Í:ente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. "Improving cohesion between these bodies while continuing to enhance our governance procedures and policies will allow for better-informed decision-making, productive engagement, and efficient reporting to the community."

The plan is ambitious and is scheduled for implementation over seven years. Many of the goals and objectives are inward facing and may not be immediately noticeable by the community until tangible results are on display, such as new and improved services, etc. All MCK units have already begun foundational work toward these goals. The plan will help to coordinate, prioritize, measure, evaluate, and share the results of the work undertaken to better serve Kahnawà:ke.
