Route 132 paving work delayed
09/22/2023
The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that the paving work for R-132, recently announced by the Ministre des Transports du Qubec (MTQ), will be delayed.
The MTQ issued a press release on Monday, September 18, 2023, announcing that the R-132 repaving work would commence on Sunday, September 24, and continue until the end of the Fall construction season.
While we were aware of the R-132 repaving project, the exact start date of these works was not communicated to the MCK prior to the MTQs release of information, said Ratsnhaienhs Arnold Boyer, lead on the Transport Portfolio. While these works would be carried out in the overnight hours, the MCK requires time to inform our residents and business owners of the upcoming works and to ensure that our first responders are properly informed.
With several high-volume businesses on R-132, some of which are open into the early morning hours or 24 hours a day, the MCK would like to ensure proper traffic management and safety plans are in place.
The safety of our residents and motorists on R-132 cant be compromised, said Ratsnhaienhs Lindsay LeBorgne, second on the Transport Portfolio. With only one lane available in each direction when these overnight works begin, we dont want any safety issues accessing our residential roads and businesses.
The MCK and MTQ have agreed to delay the works for a period of at least two weeks, and a new start date will be announced by the MCK.
If Kahnawakehr:non and/or business owners in the area require more information, please contact Ratsnhaienhs Arnold Boyer or Lindsay LeBorgne at 450-632-7500 or via email at feedback@mck.ca.
