Ratitsenhaienhs participating in Orange Shirt Day activities

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Ratitsénhaienhs will be participating in several Orange Shirt Day (National Day of Truth & Reconciliation) events over the next few days.
- Ietsénhaienhs Jessica Lazare spoke at two events on Wednesday: the Saputo Corporate Headquarters in Montreal alongside local Chef Anna Lazare; and the reconciliation efforts by the Montréal Alouettes organization, who carried out a Meet and Greet with local youth. Ietsénhaienhs Lazare will attend an event at Kuper Academy and Kells Academy in Montreal today.
- Ratsénhaienhs Harry Rice spoke at the same Montréal Alouettes Meet and Greet on Wednesday. Today, Ratsénhaienhs Rice will be speaking with school children from the English Montreal School Board, taking part in a virtual panel discussion with Read Jones Christofferson LTD, and on Saturday attending the inauguration of a mural, a memorial and tribute to the missing children titled “Piwkentukun” (Relive again through the heart) at Café Milton on Parc Ave in Montreal.
- Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer will be attending the Blue Jays & Rogers Communications Inc. in partnership with the Downie-Wenjack Foundation Orange Shirt Day event (ball game with a first pitch) in Toronto with several other First Nations Chiefs. Tickets are being provided by Rogers.
Locally, several Ratitsénhaienhs will be attending the Orange Shirt Day event on Saturday at the Golden Age Club, which begins with a Tobacco Burning Ceremony at 9am, followed by birthday party for all the survivors of Canada’s residential school system who were denied birthday celebrations.
