Rail grinding maintenance underway this evening

The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke has been informed by Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern (CPKC) that maintenance work is scheduled for the railway lines in the Territory this evening (Wednesday).

The maintenance vehicle to be utilized is a rail grinder, which produces sparks that may appear as fire. This is normal to witness, even more so at night, and the vehicle has fire prevention systems in place should it be necessary. The vehicle moves fairly quickly and should be through the territory in both directions within a half hour.

The vehicle carries out this necessary maintenance work to extend the life of the railway and to reduce any associated risks of defects, contact fatigue, and metal obstructions on the steel.
