MCK delegation attending Jay Treaty Border Alliance meetings and Summit

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community, that Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer and Ratsénhaienhs Ross Montour are in Calgary, Alberta attending the Jay Treaty Border Alliance (JTBA) Summit. Also attending the Summit are Director of Client-Based Services Alexis Shackleton, and Project Leader for the Office of the Council of Chiefs Dennis Diabo, who sit on Technical Tables for Border Crossing.

Prior to the Summit which commences tomorrow, meetings were held today to address numerous border crossing issues including a JTBA Executive Committee meeting as well as a High Table meeting with participation from Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada Marc Miller, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Gary Anandasangaree, and representatives from Canada Border Services Agency.

This evening, a historical agreement between the Iroquois Caucus and the Blackfoot Confederacy will be entered into, establishing a partnership based on mutual interest and advocacy. This alliance will allow both parties to work collectively on issues such as the Border Crossing file.

The MCK delegation is expected back in the office on Monday, October 16, 2023.
