Construction Manager secured for Multi Purpose Building

11/23/2023

Forwarded on behalf of the Multi Purpose Building Project Team

The Kanienkehaka Onkwawenna Raotitiohkwa Language & Cultural Center, Turtle Island Theatre Company, Kahnawake Tourism, and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake wish to advise the community that the construction firm Les Enterprises QMD Inc. has been selected through a public tender as the Construction Manager of the new Kahnawake Cultural Arts Center.

QMD brings an exceptional reputation within the construction industry with over four hundred successful projects completed, including several historical buildings, educational institutions, and recent renovations to the Bell Center. They join the previously announced Design Team led by Provencher Roy/Books McIlroy Architects.

“We are very happy to have a firm of QMD’s quality and stature as the successful bidder. The Project Team will be seeking to maximize Mohawk content throughout the project, wherever possible,” stated Project Manager Louie John Diabo. “Information sessions are being planned in conjunction with QMD and Tewatohnhi’saktha. We ask all trades to stay tuned for these forthcoming announcements.”

Construction is anticipated to last approximately two years, with all divisions to be tendered throughout this timeframe. The following is a detailed list of actions to be taken in December 2023 and January 2024:

  • Community Tree Surgeon will continue to remove the brush for the building and parking areas
  • Build the temporary entrance and exit to the site for the duration of the construction
  • Construction trailer placement and Hydropower hook up
  • Building foundation and excavation (currently being tendered)

Site clearing and preparation work is scheduled to begin the week of December 4, 2023, and will continue until the Christmas construction holiday beginning December 22, 2023. Work will recommence on January 8, 2024. For any construction-related questions, please feel free to contact Project Manager Louie John Diabo at 514-831-3192 or by email at Louiejohn@diaboconsulting.com.

The official ground-breaking is taking place this Saturday, November 25, at 10:30am (parking at Kahnawake Survival School).
