Consultation Period Begins for Land Development Guidelines (Zoning)

03/03/2009

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that the Guidelines Pertaining to Land Development in Residential Areas (Zoning Guidelines) will undergo a 30-day Public Consultation period that ends Thursday, 9 Onerahtókha/April 2009 at 4pm.

The guidelines were developed after Chief and Council received several community member concerns regarding land development around their homes. Creation of these guidelines will serve as responsible land use planning for all future development in Kahnawà:ke.

“We have to think of our neighbors,” said Chief Marvin Zacharie. “We develop land so fast we forget to think about how it will affect (them).”

Copies of the guidelines are available to the community at the Lands Unit (across from the Kahnawake Youth Center), the main reception area of the MCK, or online at Kahnawake.com .

Community members are strongly encouraged to provide input or ask questions throughout this process. Please send inquiries to Travis Jacobs by dropping by the Lands Unit or calling 450-638-9052.
