Call for Candidates for Electoral Officer

As per section 5.3 of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Election Law, the Kahnawake Justice Commission is inviting interested persons to submit their candidacies for the position of Electoral Officer for the 2024 Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) Elections. The submission period begins today, Wednesday, 3 Onerahtokha/April 2024, and ends at 4pm on Wednesday 17, Onerahtokha/April 2024.

Candidates must sign a privacy waiver to allow verification that they meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Over the age of twenty-one (21) years;
  • Recognized as a Kanienkehaka of Kahnawake pursuant to the Kanienkehaka of Kahnawake Law and does not currently have their benefits and entitlements suspended;
  • Ordinarily resident in Kahnawake;
  • Not have pled guilty, been found guilty, been convicted, and/or sentenced for a criminal offense within the previous six (6) years. The  six (6) year ban commences only after all sentences have been served in full; 
  • Not be a member of the Council at any time during the year immediately preceding the election or intend to be a candidate in the election.

The Electoral Officer must also meet the requirements contained in the Terms of Reference and have the skills and experience necessary to conduct the 2024 MCK Elections in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner. To assist with the evaluation, Candidates must also provide a letter of intent and resume, the names and contact information of two (2) professional references, and Proof of minimum high school education.

Candidates deemed by the Kahnawake Justice Commission to meet minimum requirements and to have the necessary skills and experience necessary after a verification and screening process will be placed on the ballot for a community vote.

Application packages can be sent to interested persons by email and, once completed, can be submitted by email to evaluation.committee@mck.ca.

Candidates can make arrangements to pick up and submit application packages if they do not have access to a computer.
