IKEA Donates To Community

05/28/2024

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake is pleased to announce a collaboration with the IKEA Distribution Center in Beauharnois to receive overflow products for distribution to Kahnawakehronon. At the first giveaway, there will be Dishware (4-settings), Lazy Susans, Small Shelving, as well as Chairs and Tables.

The Kateri Food Basket has graciously volunteered to hand out the items to the community today; the same day as the Food giveaways that normally happen on the Old Malone Highway. Due to traffic concerns during the times between 4:30-5:30pm, the volunteers will now set up in the Knights of Columbus parking lot.

Please enter on the west end of the Knights of Columbus parking lot, across from Tota Mas, and exit east towards the funeral home.

We have a huge opportunity to step up in new ways to positively impact the many people, and we are very pleased we could help the Kahnaw:ke community, said IKEA representative Annie Corriveau. At IKEA, we have an IKEA Neighborhood approach that allows us to help those in need near our distribution center. It is part of our vision to collaborate with indigenous communities, and it would be with this type of partnership that we can build a strong and durable relationship for a glorious future!

Cory Rice from the Kateri Food Basket said, We are very happy with this collaboration with IKEA. Its great that they have decided to give back, and I want to say Niawenhkowa to IKEA for helping our community. Come and see whats available. If you need it, its yours!

I love working on exciting collaborations that benefit the Community, said Office of the Council of Chiefs Technician Trina C. Diabo. IKEA representative Annie Corriveau and her enthusiasm in helping our community has been amazing. Details are still being worked on for an exciting art contest coming soon, so stay tuned for that, she continued.

As rain is in todays weather forecast, an alternate date may be announced.

If community members have any questions, please contact Trina C. Diabo at 514-779-4756.
