KRSC Announces consultant for Kahnawake Recreation Master Plan and Feasibility Study

The Kahnawake Recreation Steering Committee (KRSC) wishes to inform the community that on June 11, 2024, a contract was entered into with Groupe BC2, to secure consulting services for the development of the Kahnaw�:ke Recreation Master Plan and Feasibility Study. Located in Montreal, they specialize in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, and strategic planning. They have expertise in recreation, sports, leisure and infrastructure projects, as well as vast experience working with First Nations clients throughout the country.

The Kahnaw�:ke Recreation Master Plan will identify the sports and recreation needs of the community based on interest and population and provide designs for new and renovated parks in the community. This Master Plan will in turn be used to develop a Feasibility Study and concept design for either a renovated and expanded Kahnaw�:ke Youth Center (KYC) facility, or for the construction of a new KYC facility elsewhere in the community. The final report will include construction cost estimates and projected annual operating costs.

�The project is expected to last 13 months, at which time the Recreation Master Plan and Feasibility Study will be complete, and one of the first steps is to collect data, including an inventory of current programs and services, population studies, and community feedback,� stated KYC Executive Director and KRSC co-chair Kyle Zacharie. �To support this feedback period, we�re inviting the community to participate in a Community Recreation Summit on June 27th. Representatives from BC2 will be there, engaging with community members on what they would like to see in the community revolving around sports, recreation, and leisure. We hope for a good turnout and feedback from as many community members as possible.�

�We�re really excited to work with the KYC on this important project that will help steer sports, recreation, and leisure in the community for the next 10 years,� added Roiahtate Horn, KRSC co-chair and Director of Sports and Recreation. �It will provide us with the means to provide the best possible services for Kahnawa�kehr�:non to enjoy. We�re confident in BC2�s ability to capture the community�s needs, wants, and dreams while providing us with a comprehensive plan to carry us through the next decade.�

The KRSC invites all interested community members to participate and provide their feedback on June 27th at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
