KEPO deploying data loggers in Tekakwitha Bay
07/12/2024
The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) will begin deploying data loggers in Tekakwitha Bay starting the week of July 15th, to help establish long-term records of water depth owned by Kahnawake.
A depth logger will be installed at the Tekakwitha Bridge to continuously record water depth and temperature. It will be securely mounted in a steel tube attached to a piling and remain in place indefinitely.
Additionally, KEPO will deploy two water quality data loggers on a short-term basis to measure oxygen, pH, temperature, and electrical conductivity. These devices aim to monitor the impact of upcoming remediation work on the bays water quality.
The equipment will be located near the Islands natural area and marked with small plastic and foam buoys. The data loggers will be tethered to land with submerged cables to prevent them from being washed away by the current. Please exercise caution when navigating boats near these buoys.
The water quality data loggers will be deployed on the following dates this summer:
- July 16th - 23rd
- August 6th - 12th
- August 28th - September 4th
- September 18th - 25th
For questions, comments, or concerns, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or email environmentprotection@mck.ca.
