KEPO Addresses Community Concerns on Illegal Dumping
09/27/2024
The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) acknowledges the community’s growing concerns regarding the rise in illegal dumping, particularly along Seaway Road. KEPO staff, in collaboration with the Public Safety Division, have responded to multiple reports from community members about these activities.
To address the issue, trail cameras have been installed in key dumping hotspots throughout the community, and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is considering additional preventative measures.
All Kahnawa’kehró:non are encouraged to assist in monitoring illegal dumping through the Kahnawà:ke Dumping Tracker App. The App allows users to anonymously document waste types, severity, and locations, which can aid in identifying those responsible for the dumping, allowing the Kahnawake Peacekeepers to take action.
To access the Kahnawà:ke Dumping Tracker App, visit https://arcg.is/18T0mz0. You can also report concerns directly to KEPO by calling 450-635-0600.
KEPO encourages all Kahnawa’kehró:non to remain vigilant. If you witness illegal dumping, contact the Kahnawake Peacekeepers immediately at 450-632-6505.
