Social Assistance Operational Changes
04/22/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Social Development Unit (SDU) would like to inform the community that the Social Assistance Program has undergone operational changes to improve service delivery to its clients. The SDU has partnered with Kahnawake Shakotiia’takenhas Community Services, the Kahnawake Education Center and Tewatohnhi’saktha.
These partnerships will ensure that clients receive the necessary support needed for their given situations and the potential for complimentary services. “Our goal has always been to provide more effective service delivery to the clients on a case-by-case need,” stated Portfolio Chief Peggy Mayo-Standup. “
The change in operations has Social Assistance focusing on a new Case Management approach to delivering quality services. Social Assistance case workers will now work more closely with clients on a case-by-case basis to ensure each client is supported as much as possible, beyond basic financial aid. The new approach will help clients focus on building the skills and capacity needed to move forward with employment, academic or vocational training to ensure that individuals interested in a career are identified and supported to achieve success.
