Swine Flu No Pandemic

04/27/2009

The Kahnawà:ke Emergency Preparedness & Planning (EPP) Committee would like to inform all Kahnawa’kehró:non that they are well aware of the situation regarding the Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico and its affects in the United States. It should be made clear that there is currently no pandemic and the situation is being monitored.

EPP is very confident in the expertise of the staff at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC), who has already taken measures to inform the community. The KMHC health professionals are trained in recognizing the signs and symptoms of this flu, as well as what precautions to take if necessary. EPP will offer any assistance they may need.

EPP and the KMHC will continue to monitor the situation through Quebec Public Health, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, and will update the community as required.

EPP would like to encourage the community to take usual precautions as with any flu, such as hand washing and cough etiquette.
