Peacekeepers and SAAQ Conduct Joint Road Safety Operation
06/19/2009
The Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers along with Contrôle Routier Québec of the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) will conduct vehicle safety inspections on Highway 132 beginning on Monday, June 22, 2009.
The operation is aimed at ensuring that vehicular traffic accessing the Mercier Bridge respect the restrictions that are in place during the Mercier Bridge Rehabilitation Project.
“This joint operation will ensure that vehicles like tractor-trailers meet the current height, width and weight restrictions,” said Chief Peacekeeper Dwayne Zacharie. “We will also be inspecting other vehicles that may be in contravention of the Quebec Highway Safety Code,” added Chief Zacharie.
The inspection area will be located on Highway 132 toward the Mercier Bridge, across from Frosty’s.
Trucks and other large vehicles that exceed the 4.1-meter maximum height restriction will not be able to access the Mercier Bridge and will be forced to take an alternate route to Montreal.
“We would like to remind all motorists to respect posted signs and warnings on the roads and highways leading to the Mercier Bridge, to ensure everybody’s safety during this major reconstruction project,” said Chief Zacharie.
