Water in Tiowero:ton Recedes

07/02/2009

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke would like to inform the community that the water in Tioweró:ton has receded and Highway 30 has re-opened. There is still the potential for the waters to rise again quickly if the rain should start. Community members may access the Territory to check their cabins. However, please keep in mind that access is only to the second bridge.

The Caretakers have everything under control and have confirmed that all cabins are intact and that no cabins were washed away. Caretakers will be doing a more thorough check for any visible damage today, weather permitting, and will provide an update to the Lands Unit.

Additionally, Capital Construction crews will be traveling to the Territory today to assess the damage and the work will begin as soon as possible.

For further information, please contact Interim Tioweró:ton Coordinator Mia Phillips at the Lands Unit 450-638-8244. Updates will be provided to the community through K’103.
