Safe Water in Tioweró:ton
07/10/2009
The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and Kahnawake Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) would like to inform the community that the water contamination test results from Tioweró:ton have confirmed that the water is safe for recreational use.
Testing was required after last week’s torrential rains raised water levels so high that it may have mixed with waste from outhouses.
Please note that no well testing has been undertaken. Cabin owners in low level areas are urged to have their well water tested for contamination. Containers and information on testing the water are available at the Main Caretaker’s residence.
Upon sampling of wells, containers should be dropped off with Mark Horne at the KSCS offices to be tested. You will be informed of the results shortly thereafter.
Prior to receiving your well water test results, please note that there is a boil-advisory in place. Ensure the water is boiled for at least 10 minutes before using.
Additionally, the Capital Unit has completed repairs to the first bridge and access to the Falls is now possible. The Capital Unit will be in Tioweró:ton next week to repair other road problems throughout the territory and it will be some time until all roads are back to normal condition.
For more information, please contact the Interim Tioweró:ton Coordinator at 450-638-8244 or a Community Health Representative at 450-635-9945.
