Grand Chief to Meet Premier Charest

Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle Jr. is expected to meet informally with Quebec Premier Jean Charest this evening. Both will be attending a dinner for the Canadian Jewish Congress.

The two met this past Ohiarí:ha/June to sign the Statement of Understanding and Mutual Respect that is providing a basis for intergovernmental relations between Kahnawà:ke and Quebec. At that time a framework agreement was also signed to provide the blueprint for the renewal of the so-called Ten Agreements and the negotiation of new subject matters.

“We’ve been making progress,” said Chief Delisle. “I expect we’ll discuss ways of maintaining the momentum that’s been created. I’ll also take the opportunity to remind him of his commitment to visit Kahnawà:ke sometime this fall.”
