Highway 132 Temporary Closure
09/10/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and the Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers are informing Kahnawa’kehró:non of a major closure that will have an impact on local traffic. The Canadian Pacific Railway issued a press release earlier today to inform the public that they will be completely shutting down Highway 132 (both directions) and the 132 down ramp of the Mercier Bridge from 23:00hrs on Friday, September 11 until 12:00 noon Sunday, September 13. The closure is due to the rebuilding of the Canadian Pacific Railway level crossing at the eastern boundary of the Territory. Motorists trying to access the Mercier Bridge via Highway 132 in Ste. Catherine will be detoured to Highway 138 in Chateauguay via Highway 30. A traffic plan has been devised that will cause the least inconvenience to Kahnawa’kehró:non. However, Kahnawà:ke businesses located on the 132 will be adversely affected. The 132 will be open only to Kahnawa’kehró:non. No thru traffic will be permitted. The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers recommend non-local motorists and truckers traveling to Montreal avoid the Mercier Bridge if possible and use the Champlain or Jacques Cartier Bridges.
