Seaway Maintenance Contracts Awarded

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (“the Corporation”) has awarded contracts for maintenance work on the canal.

The first was awarded to local contractor Wayne’s Tree Service to perform trimming and cutting of trees and brush along the canal in the Kahnawà:ke section.

This work has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Additionally, the Corporation has awarded a contract to Nova Scotia-based Harbour Development – Marine Contractors to perform dredging works in the Kahnawà:ke sector. This is being done to remove silt build-up at the bottom of the channel and will not widen or deepen the Seaway.

The dredging of the Kahnawà:ke sector is expected to start after 1, Kenténha/October.
