Visioning Committee Begins Work
09/28/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that a Visioning Committee has been appointed by Chief & Council and has started work on its mandate to carry out three workshops with the community to seek out the vision of Kahnawa’kehró:non regarding the topics of Lands, People, and Law. Their findings will be reported to Chief & Council and the community.
The Committee consists of Alex McComber (Lead), Treena Delormier, Davis Rice, Tonia Williams and Connie Meloche. Jesse Deer has been recruited to act as a Youth Intern.
This is the final phase of the original Visioning Project that started last year. The first phase included the publication of essays submitted by 79 community members who were asked to write about their thoughts about the future of Kahnawà:ke. The submissions were from a wide cross-section of the community, including youth, adults, elders and scholars.
A second phase involved a survey on Kahnawà:ke vision and services in which 129 Kahnawa’kehró:non participated.
The third and final phase will involve workshops to be held in November. Individual workshops will be scheduled for the topics outlined above.
The final results are expected to be presented in early December.
