Boston Bruins & Jersey Day Declared in Kahnawą:ke
10/14/2009
Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhrhon Delisle, Jr. announced today that he has declared Friday, 23 Kenténha/October as the Official Boston Bruins Day in Kahnawą:ke.
This is being done as a means of honoring the Boston Bruins Alumni, who are returning to the community to participate in an exhibition hockey game, followed by an already-sold-out dinner/dance. The complete proceeds from both events will go to two local non-profit organizations: the Kateri Memorial Foundation and K103 Kahnawake Radio. Brian Goodleaf and Mohawk Genivar are bearing most of the costs of putting on the event.
Kahnawą:ke schools, businesses and other organizations will be asked to encourage their students/members/ workers to wear their favorite team jerseys on that date at a cost of two dollars, with the monies collected being added to the fundraising effort.
Last year the schools were asked if they wished to participate - which, of course, they did, said Chief Delisle. Businesses and other organizations are now asking if their staff could participate. So this year it will be opened up to everyone in Kahnawą:ke.
Monies raised will be collected by the end of the day. Please contact Joe Delaronde to register your business contact information.
