Construction of New Water Reservoir to Begin October 15th
10/14/2009
The Capital Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to announce that construction of a new 3000m³ Water Reservoir will begin on Thursday October 15th, 2009. The new reservoir will be located behind the existing Water Filtration Plant near the Marina Road (see map below). This project, worth $13 million dollars, has been made possible by the Federal government under Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Along with improving the quality of Kahnawà:ke’s drinking water system, the project will also increase the capacity of the reservoir to reflect the community’s greater needs. More details will be released to the community in the near future. Works will include site preparation, excavation and pile driving, followed by structural concrete works. Construction is expected to continue until December 2009, weather permitting. The 3000m³ Water Reservoir will be built to improve fire safety for the entire centralized water network, as well as provide adequate time to perform regular maintenance on the Water Treatment Plant. Proper signalization and a safety fence will be erected delimiting the work zone and any detours will be clearly marked to allow for safe passage for pedestrians and motorized vehicles. The road leading to the Marina will remain open. If further information is required, please contact the Technical Services Office at 450-635-1016.
