MCK, Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Association Support Regulation of Industry

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announced today that it has come to an understanding with the Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Association that should be looked upon as a positive development for the community.

The following statement was released immediately following a meeting held this morning:

“It is hereby agreed to by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and the Kahnawake Tobacco Association that the trade in tobacco is a legal industry within the Territory of Kahnawà:ke and are committed to regulating the tobacco industry and have begun to do so at our meeting held on Friday, October 16, 2009 and will continue to do so in future meetings.”

The MCK and KTA have been meeting since the latter part of 2008.
