Continuation of Roadwork on Ramp 4 in November
10/30/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke has been notified by the Jacques Cartier & Champlain Bridge Incorporated (JCCBI) that work on the Route 138 upramp of the Mercier Bridge will continue until the end of November. The following is the notice released by the JCCBI: “When work must occur on an existing structure, many variables may result in additional delays. In the case of the current roadwork, it is important to note that work under the La Prairie onramp (Ramp 2) is delicate in nature and that it requires compliance with important safety norms. It would have been unthinkable to completely close this ramp given that drivers from both La Prairie and Châteauguay used it daily. As a result, the schedule has been reviewed in order to allow work to proceed efficiently while respecting both the safety of drivers and the construction workers. Numerous efforts have been undertaken in the last weeks, and closures during the week and on weekends confirm it. We have waited until today in order to fully understand the requirements tide to the completion of the work season. We will take the month of November to complete Ramp 4. The work on Ramp 3 (Chateauguay offramp) will begin next spring. We thank you for your understanding and patience. Please rest assured that all those involved in the project are very conscious of the impact of the roadwork and are making every effort to complete it as quickly as possible.”
