Message/Update to the Community Regarding Mercier Bridge Repairs
11/12/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform and update the community on certain issues relating to the Mercier Bridge repair project. “As there has been a great deal of misinformation and speculating surrounding (the issues) it is important to clarify and, in some cases, correct this misinformation,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. in a letter to the community that will be published tomorrow. Along with explaining the Mohawk Council’s involvement of the project, the MCK offers some recommendations and suggestions to resolve some of the issues that have arisen. “This is a huge job, and in a job of this size there are bound to be problems,” said Chief Delisle. “With the safety of the public at stake, it is unacceptable that any issues or concerns go unheard and unresolved. The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will continue to work diligently to ensure this.” The letter is available to be viewed at www.kahnawake.com and will be printed in this week’s Eastern Door newspaper. Copies will also be available on request at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s main building. Awarded in April of 2008, this is the largest bridge repair contract in Canadian history.
