MCK Refutes Plaza Royale Advertising Claims
11/26/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is once again advising Kahnawa’kehró:non that it does not recognize or support the enterprise calling itself “Plaza Royale.”
Chief and Council have taken note of a number of full page advertisements recently appearing in local media outlets. As well, community members have been asking for some type of clarification because of claims made that the facility is “…more than 95% completed and with community approval, our projected opening date will be in December of 2009.”
Neither the MCK nor the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission has given any such approval. As a matter of fact, the MCK issued a statement last year (on this same issue) that said, in part, “Council decided unanimously that it cannot – and will not – support the establishment of a land-based casino by private interests.”
Community members have been further confused by the fact that “Four Aces Poker” is now operating in the facility that is probably referred to in the Plaza Royale advertisements. Four Aces Poker (formerly Plaza 138 Poker) is licensed by the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission and has followed the proper protocols and regulations. To the MCK’s understanding Four Aces Poker is not affiliated with Plaza Royale.
