Holiday Train Visit a Great Success!
12/02/2009
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke is pleased to announce that last weeks visit by the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train was a resounding success.
$1,200 in cash and toys for approximately 50 children were donated to the Kahnawake Christmas Basket, while 750 lbs. of groceries were donated to the Kateri Food Bank. These totals were significantly higher than last year.
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also donated $1,500.
Over 300 hot dogs, 500 glow sticks, 300 candy canes and several gallons of hot chocolate were distributed by volunteers to those in attendance. Holiday Train staff also distributed special whistles, pins, scarves and postcards.
The event was attended by a substantial number of people from the neighboring communities, many who commented very positively about the hospitality and, of course, about the event itself. Kahnawą:ke is the Trains only stop on the South Shore.
The Holiday Train travels throughout Canada and parts of the northeast United States, helping to collect food and raise monies for local food banks.
