KFB: new ladder truck status
01/11/2010
The Kahnawà:ke Fire Brigade (KFB) wishes to update the community on the status of the new Ladder Truck ordered in late 2008. The KFB expected to take delivery of the new truck in November of 2009 but the delivery date has now been pushed back approximately three months.
During a mid-point inspection of the vehicle in August, 2009 at the Rosenbauer facility in Minnesota, the truck was found to be 2 inches over the restriction height of 11 feet 6 inches as specified when ordered. As a result the truck had to be shipped back to the manufacturing plant in Nebraska where the error occurred. The height restriction is necessary because of the maximum height of the bay doors at the fire station and also the height of the Canadian Pacific Railway Tunnel on the Old Malone Highway.
“A new cradle for the ladder section was manufactured and the height of the truck is now as specified”, said KFB Chief David Scott. “The truck is currently in Minnesota for completion of the body work and the expected delivery date is now late February 2010.”
The community of Kahnawà:ke donated more than $400,000 dollars towards the approximate $1M (USD) price tag during a radio-thon held by K103 Radio in October, 2008.
