CPR lift bridge cable inspections

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority will be conducting a detailed inspection of all the vertical bridge counterweight cables on the Canadian Pacific Railway lift bridge. The work begins today, February 1st, and should be completed within two weeks.

A detailed inspection of the metal braids at certain predetermined points on the cables as well as electromagnetic testing will take place to ensure the proper condition of the cables. As a result, replacements can be planned for continued safe operation of the bridge.

In order to perform the inspections the contractor is obliged to install movable scaffolding (swing stage). Inspections will be carried out by CNC Mechanical with the supervision of a Seaway inspector on site.
