MCK updates on letters

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to update the community on the status of the current action being taken regarding people who are not eligible to reside in the Territory.

As of this morning, approximately half of the letters have been hand-delivered to the persons directly affected. It is expected that the remainder will be delivered by Friday. In cases where people aren�t home or are otherwise unavailable, next steps could include these individuals receiving registered letters or having letters delivered by a bailiff, depending on the circumstances.

So far, at least one person who has received a letter has requested to meet with Chief & Council, one of the options indicated in the letter.

The MCK announced last week that, in response to requests of community members, people not eligible to reside in Kahnaw�:ke would be sent letters directing them to leave immediately.
